WHEREAS, in 1957 the American Bar Association instituted May 1st as Law Day in celebrating our legal system, to draw attention to both the principles and practices of law and justice; and

WHEREAS, President Dwight D. Eisenhower established Law Day USA by proclamation in 1958, to strengthen our great heritage of liberty, justice, and equality under law; and

WHEREAS, in 1961, May 1st was designated by a joint resolution of Congress as the official date for celebrating Law Day USA; and

WHEREAS, Law Day provides an opportunity for everyone to reflect on our legal heritage the role of law, and our rights and duties, which are the foundation of peace and prosperity for all mankind; and

WHEREAS, while May 1st remains the official date, Law Day often stretches into "Law Week" as the American Bar Association is joined by national organizations, state and local bar association, businesses and schools, in conducting thousands of programs on the rule of law in a constitutional democracy; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada wishes to commend all those who participate in and support Law Day by providing educational programs and by increasing awareness of the great constitutional democracy we enjoy with liberty, justice, and equality for all;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JIM GIBBONS, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA do hereby proclaim May 1, 2008, as

LAW DAY
