WHEREAS, from 1933 to 1945, six million Jews were murdered in the Nazi Holocaust as part of a systematic program of genocide, and millions of other people perished as victims of Nazism; and

WHEREAS, all Nevadans should always remember the atrocities committed by the Nazis, so that such horrors are never repeated; and

WHEREAS, all Nevadans should continually rededicate themselves to the principle of equal justice for all people; and

WHEREAS, all Nevadans should remain eternally vigilant against all tyranny, and recognize that bigotry provides a breeding ground for tyranny to flourish; and

WHEREAS, May 4, 2008 has been designated pursuant to an Act of Congress as a Day of Remembrance of Victims of the Nazi Holocaust, known Internationally as Yom Hasoah; and

WHEREAS, it is appropriate for all Nevadans to join in the commemoration;

NOW, THEREFORE I, JIM GIBBONS, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim May 2, 2008, as

A DAY OF REMEMBRANCE OF THE VICTIMS OF HOLOCAUST

In Nevada, and urge all citizens to join me in their memory; and in hope that we will strive always to overcome prejudice and inhumanity through education, vigilance and resistance
