WHEREAS, for nearly one hundred-forty-four years, people across our nation and around the world have enjoyed traveling to Nevada to visit our magnificent cities, parks, museums, and countless other natural, historic, and cultural sites; and WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize Nevada’s attractions, recreational activities, special events, historic sites and natural wonders and encourage travelers from around the world to visit our State; and WHEREAS, with 18 of the largest hotels in the country and more than 175,000 hotel rooms, Las Vegas leads the way with more places for travelers to stay, coupled with more than 60 golf courses designed by golf’s greatest players, it is the place to play; and WHEREAS, Nevada sets the standards for excellence and variety for travelers who want entertainment, night-life, fine dining, beautiful resorts, family-centered activities, gaming establishments and scenic beauty; and WHEREAS, for those tourists seeking the more adventurous outdoor experience, our State offers such sports as heli-skiing, mountain biking, hiking, and whitewater kayaking; and WHEREAS, the travel and tourism industry represent a vital part of Nevada’s economy, generating over $2.8 billion in state and local taxes, supporting schools, roads and infrastructure; and WHEREAS, on behalf of the citizens of the State of Nevada, we commend all those involved in the success of the tourism industry in the Silver State; NOW, THEREFORE, I, JIM GIBBONS, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim May 10-18, as TOURISM WEEK IN NEVADA |
