WHEREAS, the bicycle is regarded as an environmentally sound vehicle because it emits no pollution and requires no fossil fuels to operate; and

WHEREAS, commuters who travel by bicycle employ a clean, quiet, and efficient mode of transportation while reducing traffic congestion and saving on the fuel and maintenance costs of driving to work; and

WHEREAS, bicycling to work incorporates a healthy form of exercise into an individual’s daily routine and helps reduce traffic-related stress; and

WHEREAS, state and local agencies promote bicycle use through the State of Nevada Bicycle Plan, local bicycle plans, bicycle safety programs, bicycle maps, bicycle racks, bicycle lanes and paths, and trail improvements; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada commends all the participants of Nevada Bike to Work Day and encourages all participants to remember to observe all safety measures, including wearing a helmet and obeying all traffic laws;.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JIM GIBBONS, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim May 16, 2008, as

NEVADA BIKE TO WORK DAY
