WHEREAS, the Honorable A. William Maupin has enjoyed a distinguished legal career in the State of Nevada for more than 35 years in both the public and private sectors, during which he has demonstrated exceptional abilities and leadership skills; and WHEREAS, the Honorable A. William Maupin was appointed to the district court bench in Clark County in 1993 and served with distinction as a district court judge until 1996; and WHEREAS, the Honorable A. William Maupin was elected to the Nevada Supreme Court in 1996, where he has served with distinction, including serving as Chief Justice on two separate occasions, successfully leading Nevada’s entire court system during the legislative sessions in 2001 and 2007; and WHEREAS, the Honorable A. William Maupin recently decided to retire from the Nevada Supreme Court upon the expiration of his current term; and WHEREAS, the Honorable A. William Maupin has time and again demonstrated his commitment to the legal community of Nevada by serving as president of the Defense Trial Lawyers of Nevada, by serving for four years on the board of governors of the State Bar of Nevada, and serving on the boards of directors of both Nevada Legal Services and Clark County Legal Services; and WHEREAS, the Honorable A. William Maupin further demonstrated his dedication to improving the bench and bar by not only serving on the Nevada Supreme Court study committee to review judicial elections, but by also serving on the Nevada Supreme Court committee on Alternate Dispute Resolution, working tirelessly to implement the successful arbitration program that continues to this date; and WHEREAS, the Honorable A. William Maupin has been recognized in Who’s Who in America and presented with the Roger D. Foley Professionalism Award; and WHEREAS, on behalf of all citizens of Nevada, we would like to thank and commend the Honorable A. William Maupin for his many years of devoted and valuable service to our Silver State; NOW THEREFORE, I, JIM GIBBONS, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim June 20, 2008, as a day in honor of the HONORABLE A.
