WHEREAS, Colonel Alex Woods faithfully served Washoe County high school cadets as commander of all ROTC battalions in the district; and

WHEREAS, Colonel Alex Woods served his country for 28 years on active duty, commanding units from platoon to battalion level, served two combat tours in Vietnam, and was stationed for seven years in Europe; and

WHEREAS, Colonel Alex Woods was admired, respected, and revered by those who knew him, and he is remembered as a leader who inspired young men and women to recognize their potential and to realize their dreams; and

WHEREAS, Colonel Alex Woods was a dedicated and true champion of Nevada’s youth; and

WHEREAS, Colonel Alex Woods is honored today with the commissioning of a memorial plaque and the naming of the Annual Colonel Alex Woods Leadership Excellence Award;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JIM GIBBONS, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim November 4, 2009 as a day in honor of
