WHEREAS, Jesse Gutierrez has been a dedicated servant to the people and the community of Reno for many years; and

WHEREAS, Jesse Gutierrez has expanded the Hispanic Youth Image Program to reach out to 400 young people every year; and

WHEREAS, Jesse Gutierrez co-founded the first Dual Language Charter School in the state of Nevada, and advocated for establishing Kinder Amigos, a program that helps Latino children assimilate into their classrooms; and

WHEREAS, Jesse Gutierrez has advocated for establishing the ESL Bridge Program for Truckee Meadows Community College, has advocated for the establishment of the Meadowood Center for meeting the needs of the Hispanic community; and

WHEREAS, Jesse Gutierrez’ commitment to the advancement of the Hispanic community in our state serves as an inspiration to all who have the privilege of knowing him;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JIM GIBBONS, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim November 5, 2009 as a day in honor of
