Governor-Elect Jim
Gibbons today named three senior members of his administration,
beginning with Chief of Staff Michael Dayton.
Dayton is a seasoned
political veteran, having served in federal, state and local
government capacities for nearly two decades. Dayton managed
Gibbons' successful campaign for Congress in 1996 and went on to
serve as his Congressional Chief of Staff for nearly six years.
Prior to his tenure with Gibbons, Dayton served for seven years,
including three legislative sessions, as executive director of
the Senate Republican Leadership Conference under the leadership
of Senate Majority Leader Bill Raggio. Dayton also served as
chief policy advisor to Lt. Governor Lorraine Hunt during the
2003 Nevada Legislature and as a management analyst for the City
of Las Vegas in 2004. He’s currently Vice President of
Government Affairs for the McDonald Carano Wilson law firm.
"I am deeply honored to
be appointed by Governor-elect Gibbons in this role,” stated
Dayton. “I look forward to working with him and the Legislature
to assist them in making Nevada an even better place in which to
live and work."
Of Dayton, Gibbons said,
"I have great confidence and trust in Mike, whom I have known
for over 18 years. He is well known throughout Nevada political
circles and is widely respected for his professionalism, work
ethic and knowledge of public policy issues.”
Gibbons has chosen
Dianne Cornwall to be his Deputy Chief of Staff. Cornwall
currently serves as Chief of Staff for Gibbons’ congressional
offices in Reno, Las Vegas, Elko and Washington, D.C. She has
extensive political and planning experience as a two-term Washoe
County Commissioner and as a board member of the Tahoe Regional
Planning Agency, the Washoe County Regional Planning Commission
and the county’s water board. Cornwall was also the first woman
to chair the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority (RSCVA).
Veteran newsman Brent
Boynton has been named the governor-elect’s Communications
Director. After a 28-year career as a television news anchor and
reporter, including more than 13 years in Reno, Boynton served
as communications director in Gibbons’ congressional office and
later in the same capacity in his campaign office.
All three appointees are
eager to serve the next Governor as well as the people of
Nevada.
