Carson City—
Governor Jim Gibbons
announced today that
Susan Jacobsen-Jackson
and Mary Baker have been
appointed to the State
Parole Board.
Commissioners on the
Parole Board are
responsible for making
reasonable and
responsible decisions
regarding the release of
offenders to community
supervision.
“Susan Jacobsen-Jackson
has an extensive
background in law
enforcement and an
exceptional record of
service to the State of
Nevada. She brings
valuable institutional
knowledge to the Board,
and I am pleased that
she will continue
serving the State in
this important role,”
said Governor Gibbons.
Susan Jacobsen-Jackson
is a lifelong resident
of the State of Nevada.
She began her service to
the State in August 1985
as an enforcement agent
with the Nevada State
Gaming Control Board.
In 1986 she joined the
Attorney General’s
office as a senior
investigator and served
there until 1993 when
she became a Criminal
Investigator III-
Detective Sergeant for
the Nevada Division of
Investigation. In May
1999, Jacobsen-Jackson
was assigned to the
Commission on Peace
Officer’s Standards and
Training where she
continues to serve as a
law enforcement training
consultant and trainer.
“I am very honored and
appreciative to receive
this appointment from
Governor Gibbons.
Inherent in the
profession of public
safety, I recognize the
responsibilities to
improve the quality of
the criminal justice
system,”
said Susan
Jacobsen-Jackson.
“As a Parole Board
Commissioner, I vow to
serve the public
interest and
respectfully consider
the victims of crime and
their families. I am
committed to public
safety and look forward
to continued service to
the citizens of the
State of Nevada.”
Mary Baker is also a
lifelong Nevadan and has
thirty years of
experience in community
correction, working with
juveniles, adults, crime
victims, witnesses and
their families. From
1977 to 1984, Baker
served as the Juvenile
Probation Officer II for
the Carson City First
Judicial District
Court.
“I am honored to have
been appointed to the
State Parole Board, and
am looking forward to
serving in this
capacity,”
said Mary Baker.
“I am proud to be
working with a group of
professionals dedicated
to meeting the
challenges the Board
currently faces.”
She joined the United
States Pretrial Services
Office for the U.S.
District Court as a
Pretrial Services
Officer in 1985 and
served in that capacity
for 12 years. During
her time with the U.S.
Pretrial Services
Offices, Baker held
several positions,
including Officer
in-Charge, Drug and
Alcohol Treatment
Specialist, Program
Development Coordinator,
and she also provided
auxiliary services to
the Office of Probation
and Pretrial Services.
“Mary Baker brings a
great deal of valuable
experience to the State
Parole Board. Her
service with the U.S.
District Court will be a
valuable asset to the
State and to her fellow
commissioners,”
said Governor Gibbons.
