(Carson
City, NV) --
Governor Jim
Gibbons
today
announced
the
reappointment
of Raymond
“Skip”
Avansino,
Jr. and TJ
Day to the
Nevada State
Athletic
Commission.
The
commission
oversees and
regulates
unarmed
combat in
the State of
Nevada,
including
boxing and
mixed
martial
arts.
“The
continued
success of
boxing and
the
ever-growing
popularity
of mixed
martial arts
are critical
to tourism
in Nevada,”
Gibbons
said. “The
rest of the
nation looks
to Nevada as
the gold
standard in
regulating
these
sports, and
it’s
essential
that we
maintain
diligence in
these
regulations,
both for the
safety of
the
combatants
and the
integrity of
the sports
themselves.”
“Both
Avansino and
Day have
demonstrated
their
commitment
to these
goals
through
their work
on the
commission,
and I’m
confident
they will
continue
this
diligence as
they serve
another
term,” the
Governor
said.
Both terms
are
effective
Nov. 1 and
last three
years.
